Join Tamworth Castle for its popular festive events including visiting the castle traditionally dressed for Christmas.

Tamworth Castle is opening its festive doors this December, to welcome visitors to explore their traditional decorated rooms and Christmas arrangements, kindly created by Dosthill WI, Lady Meadow Sewing Group and volunteers.

Tamworth Borough Council are thrilled to have the support of both Dosthill WI and Lady Meadow Sewing Group again this year, who worked with castle volunteers to prepare the castle for Christmas, helping to create beautiful displays within the many period rooms of the castle. This year’s Christmas decorating theme is Christmas Carols.

The decorations can be seen from 30 November, and a particular highlight is the beautiful ‘Castle by Candlelight’ event taking place on 7 and 8 December, featuring carol singers in the Great Hall to entertain visitors.

Visit the castle after dark and take a walk through the enchanted candlelit castle, decorated for Christmas. Finish your visit with festive entertainment from the Christmas carollers in the beautifully lit medieval great hall.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for children. There are various timed visits available, book now: Castle by Candlelight (tamworthcastle.co.uk).

The Dosthill WI, Lady Meadow Sewing Group and volunteers, have offered their time and skills to create magical, festive atmosphere for visitors to enjoy until 29 December.

You’re sure to find plenty of Christmas cheer at Tamworth Castle this December starting with Museum Shop Sunday on 1 December.

Visit the castle shop for free mead tasting and10% discount on bottles of mead. Plus 10% off selected castle shop items including bespoke artist-created mugs and tea towels.

Great for Christmas presents and unique souvenirs!

And don’t forget Santa! For a lovely festive experience for all the family, celebrating the magic of Christmas, come to ‘Santa’s Christmas Castle’ experience. Santa will be in residence to welcome visitors and listening to their news of the wonderful things that have happened during their year.

You will tour through the beautifully decorated festive castle, looking for clues to lead you to Santa. Children will write a letter of wishes and post it through a magic letter box and create their own bespoke Christmas keep sake. Each child will be presented with a gift from Santa’s helper as they bid Santa a fond farewell.

Visit Santa on either Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Saturday 14 or Sunday 15 December. Various time slots are available, but tickets are selling fast so be quick to make sure you see Santa.

Pre-booking is essential, and tickets are £12.50 for adults, £15 for children aged three and over, £6 for children aged two and below.

Book your tickets here: Santa's Christmas Castle (tamworthcastle.co.uk).

And brand new for the castle is Santa Paws! Dogs love Christmas too, so give them the wonderful experience of meeting Santa in the Stables at Tamworth Castle.

As well as meeting Santa, every dog will receive their own present to open or save for Christmas Day. Owners will also have the opportunity to take a commemorative photo or two.

Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, engagement and leisure for Tamworth Borough Council said: “What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to enjoy a special visit exploring a truly historic setting?

“There are lots of different Christmas events and activities on offer, no matter your age. Embrace a traditional festive feel by seeing our beautiful castle decorated like it was during a Christmas of yesteryear.

“We are delighted to share our festive décor with visitors this Christmas. I want to say the biggest thank you for the continuous help from our volunteers and community groups who bring a variety of skills to support with many tasks and events throughout the year. We cannot operate the castle without our valuable volunteers and groups contribution.
